Duties

The VA Medical Center in Manchester is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner who is certified in Adult Psychiatric Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner. The incumbent will be accountable for the delivery of quality care including the assessment, diagnosis and prescribing services for the management of Veterans with acute and chronic mental illnesses. S/He will work collaboratively with disciplines within the Mental Health Service Line and within the VA Medical Center. In the clinical setting, the incumbent will be responsible for serving a critical role in the outpatient continuity of care. S/He will independently manage a caseload of Mental Health patients within the mental Health Clinic. S/He will participate in transitioning Veterans from inpatient to outpatient treatment settings, provide ongoing evaluation and diagnosis, and assess psychological functioning, substance abuse, and psychosocial well-being, and treatment of Veterans. A primary function in this role includes providing assessment and diagnosis to individuals with mental illness and prescribing psychiatric medications and treatment.

Work Schedule: The primary work schedule is 8:00 am - 4:30 pm although both full and part time opportunities exist. Extended Hour tours may be required

    • Basic Requirements:
      • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
      • Possess a Master's Degree in professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency, and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) OR The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
      • Possess current, full, active and unrestricted licensure, certification, and/or registration as a graduate professional nurse (RN) in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia.
      • Possess full and current certification as a psychiatric or mental health nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body.
      • Proficient in spoken and written English (RNs appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d)).
