The University of South Dakota (USD) Department of Nursing is seeking an Associate Chair of Academics to assist the Chair of the Department in ensuring academic quality of current and future undergraduate programming. The Associate Chair will assist with daily operations, program standards, faculty and curriculum development and student academic affairs.

The Associate Chair of Academics has leadership and administrative responsibilities to ensure academic quality of current and future programming and works closely with faculty, students, and support staff to accomplish this goal.

The position reports to the Chair of Nursing. Although the position will be based on the main campus in Vermilion, travel to the remote sites is an expectation.

The Associate Chair of Academics will be responsible for overseeing and monitoring academic policies and processes of admission, advisement/progression, recruitment and retention, and graduation. S/he will lead and manage accreditation and regulatory requirements and identify innovative curriculum opportunities to meet the emerging needs of our students and clinical partners. The successful candidate will be a member of the leadership team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong background in teaching, and demonstrated success leading admission, academic advisement/progression, recruitment and retention, and graduation processes in a complex institutional setting are required. Significant experience in student data management and educational and information technology is also required, including experience working with Salesforce and Customer Resource Management systems.

USD Nursing has a 4-year Baccalaureate nursing program and an on-line RN- BSN program that utilizes cutting edge concept-based curricular design, incorporating the AACN Essentials of Baccalaureate Education, QSEN competencies, simulation, and interprofessional education. The applicant must hold a doctorate in Nursing or related field. PhD candidates may apply, but must have a well-defined completion date. The Associate Chair must be eligible for a tenure track appointment. The primary position description is administrative with 70-80% effort dedicated to the administrative role, general service, and expectation of teaching 1-2 courses per year. The remaining 20-30% effort is dedicated to scholarship, with expectations of research and scholarly activity.

The candidate must be eligible for licensure in South Dakota.
