Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesist

The Richmond VA Medical Center is recruiting for afull-time Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). The CRNA will provide general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and monitored anesthesia care for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to patients undergoing surgery, catheterization, laboratory procedures, interventional radiology treatments, ECT, and other non-surgical interventional procedures requiring anesthesia and/or sedation.The CRNA will provide pre operative acute pain management services as well as monitor and manage patients' vital functions, care and pain during and after surgery or procedure. The CRNA will care for patients requiring pain management, anticoagulation, and airway management services. Candidates must be able to provide anesthesia care for general, vascular, orthopedic, and other non-cardiac surgery cases. Knowledge of current guidelines for airway management in cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a prerequisite. Incumbent participates in a team approach to ensure appropriate patient assessments, anticipate patient care needs, prevent avoidable complications, and achieve optimal patient conditions. Acts in adherence of nursing care in accordance with ethical principles.

Work Schedule:10 hour compressed shifts will include one of the following shifts: 7am to 5pm; 8am to 6pm; 9am to 7pm; 9:30am - 7:30pm
These shifts will be determined at the discretion of the Lead CRNA and the Chief of Anesthesiology Service.

The call schedule is shared and rotated amongst the entire CRNA team.

Salary: Salary to be determined by a CRNA Nurse Professional Standards board based upon qualifications and experience.

      All individuals applying under this announcement must meet the basic qualifications standards for appointment as contained in VA Handbook, 5005, Part 2, Appendix G7.

      Individuals applying for the full-performance level typically have about 7 years experience, one year of which must reflect the ability to plan, organize, direct, coordinate and evaluate a program of nurse anesthesia care. Applicants may have obtained specialized experience as anindependent nurse anesthetic or senior nurse anesthetist.

      Must be proficient in written and spoken English

      Applicant's education and length of practice (experience) will be considered by a CRNA Professional Standards Board to determine the grade and salary of the applicant selected.

      Drug Testing: All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with the VA.

      Licensure: A current, full, active and unrestricted as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States of the District of Columbia. The nurse anesthetistmust maintain a current, full, active and unrestricted registration to continue employment with the VA. The appointing official may waive this requirement if the nurse anesthetist is to serve in a country other than the United States and has registration in that country.

      Physical Requirements: The physical requirements of this position include lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motion and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials.
