Licensed Practical Nurse

The incumbent will possess the knowledge, skills and self-direction to carry out and complete nursing procedures, comprehensive patient education, broad assignments and nursing care expected in the outpatient, ambulatory care setting, participation in complex ambulatory procedures common to Primary Care, Dermatology, Podiatry and other medical/surgical subspecialty clinics.Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Implementing treatment modalities in response to chronic and acute medical conditions.
  • Workingunder the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or medical provider with general overview by RN or medical staff.
  • Providingpreventative health and chronic disease management and education, and screening inquiries allowed with the practice of nursing and approved by nursing and medical leadership.
  • Adheringto the practice restrictions outlined in state license and facility protocols and policies.
  • Performs routines expected of the position and/or competency with minimal oversight to include venipuncture, intake and assessment, injections, EKG's, vital signs, photo imaging, education, wound care etc.
  • Performing phlebotomy services: Collecting, processing, preparing, storing, and packaging laboratory specimens.
  • Using standard aseptic procedures and safeguards and practices infection control (Universal Precautions) in the performance of all specimen collection and processing duties.
  • Identifying the patient using two acceptable patient identifiers, review laboratory request for order number, accession lab orders, and ensure proper labeling and integrity of patient samples.
  • Recording and maintaining all quality controls, operating and maintaining the centrifuge and required refrigeration/cooling equipment.
  • Recognizingthe need for optimal customer service and immediate service recovery to promote the optimum patient experience.
  • Takingall necessary precautions to avoid the spread of illness or disease when administering care to patients.

This is a Bargaining Unit Position

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, Other as patient care dictates; Days and Evenings; 7:00AM to 4:00PM

    • The grade for this position is determined by the qualification standards, time in experience and performance of the incumbent based on the following criteria:

      GS-5:

      • Completion of at least one year of qualifying experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent.
      • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems.
      • Demonstrated ability to serve as a responsible member of the nursing team and interact in an appropriate manner with patients family members, professionals and others.
      • Knowledge and skill sufficient to prepare, administer and document actions taken specific commonly prescribed medications as approved by the facility policies and procedures.
      • Knowledge and ability to recognize the need for and to institute indicated emergency measures, seek assistance from the RN, MD or DO and to assist in resuscitation procedures.
      • Recognize and respond to breakage/malfunction, loss of equipment, safety hazards and deficiencies and to report to appropriate personnel.
      • Complete work under the supervision of an RN, MD or DO.

      GS-6:

      • Completion of at least one year of qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent for LPN/LVN while meeting all performance requirements.
      • Technically proficient in initiating, performing and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patients.
      • Knowledge and ability to carry out patient care based on patients' conditions.
      • Ability to observe, identify and respond to the patient's needs for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care and patient/family education.
      • Prepares and administers prescribed medications and performs procedures according to established protocols and policies.
      • Knowledge and ability to recognize urgent and emergency patient care situations.
      • Knowledge and understanding of human behavior, patient motivations and reactions to situations.
      • Establish constructive relationships with patients and families.
      • Knowledge and skill in performing support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices.
      • Actively seeks out educational opportunities to enhance nursing knowledge and skills and to share knowledge gained with other staff to improve and advance nursing practice.
