The Mercy Health Medical Center is looking for experienced Nursing Professional Development Specialists only. The Nursing Professional Development Specialist will be hired to work at the Mercy Health Medical Center when Penn Medicine and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania assume nursing operations at the end of March. You can expect to begin your training on units at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania prior to the moving over to Mercy Health Medical Center.The Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPDS) practices within the professional practice model of his/her institution and exhibits Penn Medicines core values in order to promote nurses professional development in alignment with his/her organizations strategic plan. Working from a specialized knowledge base, the NPDS provides expert consultation in collaborative partnerships with various stakeholders to design, implement and evaluate educational programs that uphold practice standards, support evidence-based practice, and improve the delivery of high quality, comprehensive, individualized patient-and-family-centered care. The NPDS provides leadership to identify the nursing staffs learning needs and respond to these educational needs while considering the effected patient populations, new clinical evidence, and organizational goals and changes both locally within the health system and nationally/globally. Each NPDS serves as a vital liaison to communicate and negotiate multiple perspectives within his/her organization in a respectful and effective manner to achieve/advocate positive change and delivery of appropriate and ethical care. The ultimate goals of NPDS specialty practice are the provision of quality care and protection of the public.The NPDS must possess a unique knowledge base and demonstrate competency in:a) Designing educational nursing curriculum that is framed by appropriate teaching/ learning theories and validation methods for assessing nurse competencyb) Facilitating, implementing, and evaluating the outcomes of educational programsc) Supporting professional nursing development for his/herself and other nursesd) Providing leadership to promote excellence in nursing practice, facilitate change initiatives, and support researchThe NPDS is accountable for cultivating an environment of inquiry and learning that supports the autonomy and accountability of the nurses roles, excellence in nursing practice, and upholds the strategic goals and values of his/her organization. The NPDS includes patient-and-family-centered, culturally competent, and age specific care, as appropriate, throughout the educational programs offered by the department. The NPDS is self-directed and purposeful in maintaining current professional knowledge and competence within specialty area and participating in peer review.

Minimum Certifications, Registry and/or Licenses Required: RN License and BCLS Certification.\n\nMinimum Degree Requirements and Experience Required: BSN and MSN, plus a minimum of 2 years of experience in nursing.
