The Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology has an exciting opportunity for an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Inpatient Hepatology team medically managing advanced liver disease patients at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. This is a new inpatient position and will likely evolve with time as the needs and demands of the service change with expansion of our inpatient Hepatology services at HUP East. Responsibilities shall include daily team rounds on liver patients admitted directly to our Hepatology service and inpatient Hepatology consults. The team is comprised of Hepatology faculty, Transplant Hepatology Fellow(s) and a dedicated inpatient Hepatology Nurse Liaison. The number and type of consults will vary during the day in indication, acuity, and location across our main hospital (HUP) and new inpatient pavilion HUP East. The Transplant Hepatology team works closely with our Penn Liver Transplant Surgeons, Transplant Psychiatrists, Transplant APPs, pre/post liver transplant nurse coordinators, social workers, pharmacists and nutritionist. The Penn Liver Transplant program is one of the most comprehensive and high volume centers in the country caring for patients with end-stage liver disease. This position requires a high level of independence but is well supported with a collaborative and multi-disciplinary practice model. The high acuity clinical practice setting is dynamic, fast-paced, and high pressure. Excellent critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills, as well as a strong medical and pharmacology knowledge are essential. In this role there will also be a tremendous professional growth potential and the opportunity to participate in Penn Medicines tripartite mission of clinical care, research, and education. Members of the team participate in a full range of quality initiatives and are encouraged to become active members of professional societies including the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease.All providers will function under the guidelines as designed by the University of Pennsylvania MedicalCenter medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body. The APP hired by the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology will be held accountable through a formal job description, through the delineation of privileges, and through their agreement with their collaborating/supervising physician who has initiated a Collaborative Practice Agreement. All clinical work hours and associated requirements will be defined and managed by the Senior APP Manager, and within the human resource guidelines.

Licensed to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner in the Pennsylvania through the State Board of Nursing.\n\nAcute Care Certification Required\n\nor\n\nLicensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Pennsylvania through the State Board of Medicine.\n\nMaster’s Degree Required\n\nPrior to employment, the CRNP/PA must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board.\n\nCertification as a CRNP or PA-C required at time of employment.\n\n2.5 Year or less experience preferred
