General Summary StatementProvides comprehensive, quality nursing care through application of the nursing process. Adheres to Nursing Policies and Procedures and Organizational Goals and Objectives. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical Practice1.\tProvides age appropriate care for the population served. Gives consideration to growth & developmental phase of life, to age related factors such as thermal regulation, nutrition, medication administration, nutrition, safety and functional needs of the patient.2.\tUses appropriate resources for patients with special needs such as language barriers, sensory problems, altered cognition, cultural and religious needs.3.\tDemonstrates competency in assessment skills (Physical, spiritual, psychological, social) of the Hematology and Oncology Services patient.4.\tPerforms telephone triage for patient problems, utilizes decision trees to formulate plan of care. Consults with physician and CRNP as necessary to problem solve and direct urgent/emergent patient care.5.\tPerforms follow up telephone alls to evaluate Hematology and Oncology Services patient outcomes.6.\tDemonstrates the ability to make correct clinical decisions and prioritize nursing actions.7.\tPerforms procedures according to policy and procedure.8.\tDemonstrates competence in starting IV ports, performing therapeutic phlebotomy, intra-peritoneal chemotherapy, and intravenous chemotherapy administration.9.\tDemonstrates competence with peripheral IV insertion.10.\tDemonstrates competence with assessing and maintaining peripheral and central IV access.11.\tFollows policy and procedure when using Cathflo to de-clot port access.12.\tAdheres to the 5 rights of medication administration. Reports errors and/or adverse drug effects 100% of the time. Researches unfamiliar medications prior to administration.13.\tFollows P&P for medication administration.14.\tAdheres to aseptic technique as appropriate.15.\tUses resources and references for reviewing policies and procedures, medications, and clinical information.16.\tRecognizes the need for and follows established protocols for requesting a physicians order/intervention or obtaining medical attention for a patient in distress.

Education Training and Experience\nBachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required. \nA minimum of 3 years recent nursing experience as an RN required. Must have strong IV therapy skills.\n\nExperience preferred in the specialty of oncology nursing. Oncology and Chemotherapy Administration experience strongly preferred. \n\nExcellent communication and patient education skills needed. Basic computer skills: keyboard, mouse use. Ability to complete data entry on clinical documentation screens. Ability to use email and internet. Ability to practice critical thinking and organizational skills. Ability to successfully complete on the job training for CCH computer programs. Ability to speak, read, write and understand English.\n\nLicensure/Certification \nCurrent Pennsylvania RN License. \nCPR certification required. \nChemotherapy certification strongly preferred; and required within first 6 months of employment.\n\nONC certification preferred.
