Program Details:

Our Nurse Residency Program is a yearlong, extensive clinical orientation(StaRN)and professional development curriculum for new graduate nurses that culminates in an evidence-based capstone project. It includes a combination of classroom learning, simulation learning, and hands-on experience and training with clinical experts.

SpecialtyTrainingApprenticeship forRegisteredNurses

The StaRN Program will assist the graduate nurse with the transition out ofthe classroom setting onto the unit by providing the following training:

  • Didactic training:introduces nurses to core curriculum and hospital initiatives in a classroom setting
  • Simulation training: reinforces nursing skills learned in a didactic setting
  • Hands on training: 7weeks with a facility preceptor in a nursing unit

Our comprehensive program will give you:

  • Advanced clinical training in a specialty area
  • Confidence as a new nurse to safely care for patients
  • Support from a community of caring, experienced nurses
  • Connection to fellow residents to share your experience
  • Opportunities to advance your career in the largest network of hospitals inthe country

Our positions are fully paid from the date the candidate starts with us. The schedule during the first portion of the StaRN is Mon-Fri, 8-hours a day, 40 hours a week. The preceptorship portion of the program consists of three 12-hour shifts at the hospital with every other weekend.

Program acceptance requires a minimum two (2) year, full time commitment to the hospital.

Professional Development Program (remaining 9 months):

  • Paired with a trained mentor for integration and socialization into the culture of professional nursing
  • Monthly resident seminars following a core curriculum for professional development
  • Completion of an evidence-based poster presentation
  • ObtainCharge Nurse and Preceptor skills

Position Requirements(Minimum qualifications for theposition)

  • Nursing student eligible to graduate OR graduate nurse withless than 12 months experience OR LPN newly licensed as an RN
  • Obtain ATT letter to sit for the NCLEX exam by start date ofthe cohort
  • Obtain a Louisiana State-approved temporary/permanent RNLicense
