Summary
Duties

The primary purpose of Inpatient Nursing Assistant (NA) is to perform a very wide range of patient personal care, support diagnostic services, and chart activities on a regular and continual basis on a surgical, medical, neurological, rehabilitation, psychiatric or long-term care ward or clinic. The incumbent performs duties in such a way as to promote a sense of worth and dignity within each individual. The NA is responsible for the evidence-based care of a group of patients, as follows:

  • Support diagnostic procedures
  • Assist with technical nursing treatments
  • Provide care that incorporates the age, gender, cultural and learning needs of patients requiring basic planning and evaluation of care
  • Apply infection control measures appropriately in delivering care
  • Communicate with team members regarding patient care
  • Adhere to ethical principles and standards in delivering care
  • Enter information into patients' records/charts
  • Apply knowledge and skill core competencies of the assigned unit to patient care
  • Use effective communication skills with co-workers to achieve desired patient outcomes
  • Provide teaching to patients
  • Demonstrate mandatory and clinical competencies of the position.
Work Schedule: M-F, 12-hour shift, 7:30am - 8:00Pm and 7:30pm - 8:00 am. Overtime, weekends, and holidays maybe required to meet patient care needs. Schedule will be discussed during interview.

      Preferred Experience: Certified Nursing Assistant; CPR/BLS certified; 3-5 Years of current experience in CLC or Med/Surg Telemetry; Specialty clinical experience in medical management of patients undergoing chemotherapy procedures; used of EMR and electronic inventory management supply system; caring for 9-13 patients under the supervision of RN and LVN

      Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates.
      GS-3 - Basic requirements.

      GS-04 - One year of specialized experience as a [NA] or experience in another medical field (licensed practical nurse, health technician, hospital corpsman, etc.), performing technical and nursing skills requiring knowledge of the human physical and emotional states, therapeutic communication, and technical skills required for basic and intermediate treatments;
      OR,
      (b) Education. Successful completion of 2 years above high school in an accredited institution with courses related to nursing care, health care or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as education in a program for psychology, psychiatric, or operating room technicians

      GS-05 - One year of progressively responsible assignments and experience equivalent to the GS-4 level which demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities that are directly related to the specific assignment. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs in subparagraph (c) below;
      OR,
      (b) Education. Successful completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree that included 24 semester hours of courses related to health care or possession of a bachelor's degree

      The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-5. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-3 to GS-5.

      Physical Requirements: Heavy Lifting and Carrying (45 lbs and over); Straight Pulling, Pushing, Walking, Standing, Repeated bending (8 - 12 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13"to 16"; to Jaeger 1 to 4; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other; Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors; and Hearing without aid.
