Essential Job Functions


  1. Support nursing students as well as other healthcare students and professionals to achieve clinical learning in the simulated patient care environment.
  2. Assist as instructional faculty during the simulation pre-brief and debriefing process. 

  3. Participate with faculty members in student evaluation by ensuring the students meet the prescribed objectives in the acquisition of skills or behaviors practiced in the simulation laboratory setting and by providing supervision and assistance to students in the simulation center.

  4. Schedule and post office hours according to institution policy.

  5. Participate in the development and maintenance of a simulation course site.

  6. Maintain student and course records according to institutional guidelines.

  7. Initiate new healthcare and simulation technology.

  8. Provide orientation and train simulation staff and faculty on simulation technology.

  9. Collaborate with Team Leaders and faculty to ensure preparation of center supplies and equipment based on faculty requests and course schedule.

  10. Collaborate with faculty from all disciplines in planning practice learning activities, designing simulations scenarios and the implementation of course related simulation scenarios with students.

  11. Assist in the development of new curricula that is supported by simulation activities.

  12. Standardized Patient Coordinator – Interview, train, and schedule standardized patients as needed for scenarios.

  13. Facilitate center resources, including simulation equipment and supplies, for internal and external stakeholders. 

  14. Prepare and maintain center and simulated patient care environments with equipment, supplies, media, computers and materials needed to replicate the virtual healthcare setting. 

  15. Develop, implement, revise and enforce simulation center policies and procedures.

  16. Report any student problems that arise in the simulation center setting to the appropriate teaching team.

  17. Participate in public relations activities and tours in an effort to establish and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, clinical partners, vendors, students, and the public.

  18. Supervise technicians and work study students assigned to the simulation center.

  19. Coordinate with faculty to schedule open clinical practice sessions.

  20. Act as a liaison with the nursing department and other departments in scheduling the use of the simulation center.

  21. Collect and analyze simulation data for the purpose of process and quality improvement and present to faculty as related.

  22. Assist in the simulation center budget planning process and participate in departmental budget planning.

  23. Provide purchase requests and quotes for new purchases.

  24. Obtain smaller purchases of simulation supplies/equipment with purchase card.

  25. Facilitate simulation equipment care and maintenance, including troubleshooting, and repair as required.

  26. Establish and maintain vendor relations for technology equipment.

  27. Collaborate with faculty in planning practice learning activities.

  28. Collaborate with faculty to plan, implement, and evaluate teaching effectiveness in the simulation laboratory.

  29. Collaborate with teaching teams on student retention and remediation plans.

  30. Participate in continuous improvement planning through assessment of learning outcomes.

  31. Support and maintain professional relationships with other faculty members and students in a manner conducive to facilitating learning.

  32. Support the philosophy and policies of the OSU-OKC Nurse Science Department and the Health Sciences Division.

  33. Strive to demonstrate NLN nurse educator and Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator competencies.

  34. Participate in institutional, departmental, and committee meetings.

  35. Provide orientation to the simulation center to nursing faculty, nursing students, staff and others as needed.

  36. Serve on the Nurse Science Leadership Council and Advisory Committee.

  37. Schedule the use of the simulation center for other campus program use.

  38. Assist in the development, planning, and implementation of inter-professional simulation scenarios.

  39. Completes all mandatory training and participates in a minimum of two professional development each year.





Hiring Range: commensurate, with generous benefits package







  1. Have a baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing, master’s degree preferred.

  2. Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a competent practitioner in nursing.

  3. Hold an unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Oklahoma.

  4. Active membership and participation in nursing and other professional organizations.

  5. Maintain computer literacy according to university policy.




Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends in an often times busy and noisy environment.
  • Work will be performed in an office and classroom environment with a significant amount of public contact, in person, by telephone and via email. 


Physical Requirements:

  • Duties require extended periods of sitting, standing, talking, listening and computer usage
