UNIT DESCRIPTION

Del Sol Labor andDelivery is a 19 bed unit with 11 Labor rooms, 2 Antepartum rooms, 3 OR suitesand a 6 bed recovery/triage unit. We average 250 births per month and currentlywork with 3 MFM's. We provide care during the Ante, Intra, and immediatePost-partum periods, and serve the high risk population. We have a Level 3 NICUwith In-house providers 24 hours a day. 

 
POSITION SUMMARY

To provide professionalnursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process. To collaborate withother members of the health care delivery team including physicians, to deliverquality health care.

 
POPULATION SERVED

Core competencies willbe assessed primarily on the following patient population served: The obstetricante, intra and postpartum patient including but not limited to vaginal andcesarean section deliveries. Population will also include the neonate. GYN patientswill also be included in the population served on L&D.

 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of the nursing process.
  • Participates and cooperates in department based Quality Improvement processes.
  • Supports, maintains and provides an environment which is supportive of quality patient care through effective use of resources and personnel.
  • Practices, develops and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Serves as the patient and family advocate with respect to patients' right to privacy by protecting confidential information.
  • Plans and implements patientcare and teaching based on a total assessment and the age of the patient.
  • Evaluates and documentspatient response; monitors and recognizes changes in physiological andpsychosocial status; takes appropriate action based on assessment of thepatient.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREDAND/OR PREFERRED

REQUIRED

  • Associate Degree

PREFERRED

  • BSN or MSN

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

        
REQUIRED 
  • Current RN Licensure in Texas or compact state
  • Current BLS certification. 
  • ACLS certification and NRP within six (6) monthsfrom date of hire or transfer to L&D.
  • AWHONN Fetal HeartMonitoring Practices and Principles must be obtained within eight (8) monthsfrom date of hire or transfer to L&D.
PREFERRED
  • S.T.A.B.L.E. certification

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED ORPREFERRED              

  • Labor and delivery,obstetrics and gynecology and postpartum experience preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ANDABILITIES

  • Reads and writes BasicEnglish with the basic skills necessary to transfer physician’s orders.  Required
  • Knowledge of body substanceisolation.  Required
  • Ability to listen, empathizeand respond to patient, family, internal and external partners needs.
  • Ability to assist withdelivery.  Required
  • Basic computer literacy andskill level to complete patient documentation. Required
  • Bilingual inEnglish/Spanish.  Preferred
