The Wake Forest School of Medicine and the Wake Forest Baptist Health Division of Nursing invites applications from candidates with a career commitment to research for a tenure track faculty position that will be housed within the Department of Internal Medicine, Section on Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine. Tenure track faculty appointments will be made at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank commensurate with experience and academic achievement. A PhD in Nursing or DNSc is required. Eligible candidates will have demonstrated strong potential for developing a program of funded scientific research, particularly in the areas of aging and population health. Those whose research or research interests align with other priorities in the School’s strategic plan will also be considered (Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Neuroscience, Diabetes, Regenerative Medicine).

The position offers opportunities to contribute to the growth of the Sticht Center for Healthy Aging and Alzheimer’s Prevention and its internationally known Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center and Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center‐‐each funded by the National Institute on Aging. These programs are also strongly linked to the internationally recognized clinical trials coordination and programs in the Division of Public Health Sciences and are engaged in interdisciplinary collaborations across the School.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an externally funded research program, advise nursing doctoral students, and mentor students, nursing staff and faculty in research. Opportunities to engage in clinical practice may be available depending upon specialty certification and Departmental needs.

Requirements

  • PhD/DNSc
  • Record of publication in peer‐reviewed journals.
  • Preferred evidence of teaching and mentoring excellence as demonstrated by course evaluation summaries.
  • Strong methodological and statistical skills.
  • Effective interpersonal communication and management skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
