Job Summary and Qualifications

Our Surgical/OR First Assist will work under the supervision of the surgical services leadership team to assist in proper care, handling, assembly, decontamination, and sterilization of instruments. *This position will be assigned to dedicated on-call*

• You will utilizes principles of aseptic technique in creating and maintaining a sterile field. 
• You will be responsible for planning and providing equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs. You will assist the surgical team in opening up items for case, cleaning rooms in between cases along with putting up unused supplies either in between cases or at the end of their assigned shift. 
• You will need to demonstrate competency in assisting surgeon as it relates to unit scope of care. 
• You will be responsible for promoting cost containment while delivering quality patient care within the operating room. 
• You will participate in on-call assignments and demonstrates flexibility to cover staffing as needed. 
• You will need to demonstrate flexibility to perform other functions within Surgical Services to assist in the smooth operation of the department.
• You will be responsible for providing a safe environment for the surgical patient during their perioperative experience.
• You will serve as a professional member of the OR team and will be responsible for pursuing your own professional growth through continuing education and in-services. 
• You will need to adhere to hospital policies and procedures; supports the mission of the hospital.

What qualifications you will need:

• Certified Surgical Technician (CST), or Certified First Assistant
• Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Must be able to respond to facility within 30 minutes while on call
