The Pediatric CVICU (Cardiovascular) Registered Nurse is responsible for planning and providing individual goal directed nursing care that promotes, advocates for, and strives to protect the health, safety and rights of the individual, family and community.  The Pediatric RN possesses knowledge of the principles of growth and development and the particular skills necessary to provide optimum patient care to the population for which he or she is employed.  The Pediatric RN is accountable for their practice and care coordination.  The Pediatric RN is expected to practice autonomously utilizing evidence based practices.

 

MedicalCity Children’s Hospital, a part of Medical City Dallas, isa 220-bed comprehensive and specialized children’s hospital providing advancedpediatric health care for young patients of all ages, from newborns toteenagers. Pediatric specialties at Medical City Children’s Hospital include pediatriccardiac surgery, pediatric emergency services, pediatric cancer care(hematology and oncology), pediatric orthopedics, neurosurgery, craniofacialsurgery, pediatric transplant and kidney care, and a Level IV NICU.

 

Medical CityChildren’s Hospital in Dallas is the only hospital in North Texas with a coreteam of cardiovascular specialists — including some of the nation’s leadingheart specialists — who treat congenital heart defects and heart disease inboth pediatric and adult patients. Our facility is home to both Medical CityChildren’s Hospital and Medical City Dallas, so we are uniquelyqualified to treat hearts of all sizes and offer continuing care throughout yourchild’s life. The CongenitalHeart Program accommodates more than 400 children annually who undergo heartoperations.  We are also a Gold LevelCenter of Excellence for cardiac and respiratory ECMO.

 

KristineGuleserian, MD, Director of the Congenital Heart Surgery Program at MedicalCity Children’s Hospital, is board-certified in general surgery, thoracicsurgery and congenital heart surgery. With more than 15 years of experience,Dr. Guleserian cares for neonates, infants, children, adolescents and adultswith congenital heart defects. Among numerous awards and accomplishments, Dr.Guleserian has been named a Top Doctor by U.S. News and World Report and wasnamed a Best Pediatric Specialist in Cardiothoracic Surgery by D Magazine forsix consecutive years. Her book entitled “Surgeon’s Story” was published in2017 and she is the first woman to lead a Congenital Heart Program in theUnited States.

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing
  • If hired after 6/1/12, BSN required within 24 months of hire into RN position.
  • Congenital Heart Experience / pediatric CVICU and/or high-acuity PICU medical-surgical experience preferred.

License/Certification
  • Current RN license in the State of Texas or compact license
  • Current American Heart Association BLS provider.
  • PALS required within 6 months of hire or transfer
  • CCRN preferred.
