Serves as the Chief, Primary Care at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center. The incumbent has decision making authority, responsibility, and accountability on all issues affecting the Primary Care clinics in Cheyenne and Sidney, Telehealth Clinics and Home Based Primary Care. The physician collaborates with the Chief of Staff, the Chief of Medicine, the Chief of Mental Health, the Nurse Executive and others to ensure that integrated goals and priorities for Ambulatory Care are established and met. He/she also works closely with peers in other services, service lines, and, management to meet the needs of the medical center's recognized customer groups. He/she is responsible, along with the Chief of Medicine, Surgery, and Mental Health, to ensure that all residency training program mandates are met in coordination with program coordinators, internally and externally. The incumbent is knowledgeable of overall VA, VISN and medical center goals, missions and priorities to ensure a positive impact on program and resources. Service Chief will participate in Process Improvement /Quality Assurance projects and other administrative duties as assigned. Designs clinic schedules, works with Physicians and Nurse Practitioners to provide timely access to care, report clinic operation metrics to Chief of Staff as well as alterations to the clinic expected workload, follow PACT principles, and coordinate the care for veterans with all clinic staff. Collaborates with other service line chiefs as applicable. Ensures quality medical care of the outpatient veteran patient(s). Administrative and clinical time can be variable but approximately 50-70% of time will be clinical and 30-50% time administrative.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

    • Basic Requirements:
      • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
      • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
      • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
      • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
      • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
      • Physical requirements outlined below.
      Preferred Experience: Prior experience as a Primary Care Service Chief and/or Clinic Director is strongly preferred but not required. Other areas of leadership experience may be considered.
