PITrauma Coordinator (RN)

HCA HoustonHealthcare Northwest is a 490-bed acute care facilityoffering inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical and specialty services. Thecampus includes Level II trauma capabilities, a Neuroscience Institute, TheHeart & Vascular Hospital, a bariatrics program, the Breast DiagnosticCenter, a wound care center, a level III Neonatal ICU, and the area’s onlypediatric emergency department and pediatric ICU.

What you will do inthis role:

  • Collects and analyzes data in order to identify expected outcomes for the observation and  medical/surgical patients
  • Abstracts data from the patient’s chart including demographic characteristics, history of injuries, and modalities according to established guidelines/reviews in conformance with the Houston Northwest Medical Center Trauma Registry.
  • Completes Performance Improvement activities through concurrent review of patient care data for trends and early identification of complications and provides evidence of loop closure.

  • Collaborates with Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Services staff and other departments to establish trauma standards and protocols. Promotes collaborative practice between departments and identifies need for consultations.
  • Serves as a member of Multidisciplinary Trauma Process Improvement Committee meetings, assisting in writing agendas and submitting to medical staffing. Prepares cases for review in Trauma Morbidity and Mortality meetings, keeps minutes and binders organized.


What qualification youwill need:

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
  • Current TX RN licensure (or eligible)
  • BLS required
  • ACLS required
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) or PALS upon employment or within 6 months of hire.
  • Two courses within 12 months of being hired: (1) the American Trauma Society’s Trauma Registrar Course or equivalent provided by a state trauma program and (2) the Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine’s Injury Scaling Course.
  • Trauma Outcomes Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) within 18 months of employment.  Continuing Education:
  • Registrars need a minimum of 8 hours of registry-specific continuing education per year. {Required for Trauma Centers: ACS-COT}
  • A minimum of three years recent Emergency Department, Critical Care or Trauma nursing care experience.
  • The Trauma Registrar must be able to prioritize work and duties well and must work well
