Job Summary

Our discharge lounge is best practice/process for supporting our patient throughput initiative. We opened in 2017 and have since remained number one in our division for timely discharges to home. The staff use a pull process from the units to encourage early discharges (monitoring bed management systems for patients who have met criteria for discharge home). The discharge process is well-received in our facility ( the community now understand the process). The patients arrive to the lounge escorted by the unit staff to a waiting room and register the patient on log. Waiting is usually within 15 min when the RN receives the patient into a private discharge area to complete a quality patient-education focused discharge to include: medication, follow-up apt and management of care- also allowing for opportunities for questions. The lounge is located just off our main entry so family members can participate in the education as well as parking for smooth transport to vehicle.

Qualifications

Current license as a RN

Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider

Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing

1+ Years of experience as a RN in an Acute Care setting required

Customer service abilities including effective listening skills. Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment. Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.
