Seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to work in the Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit. Thestaff nurse serves as the leader of the Nursing Care team who is ultimatelyresponsible and accountable to the patient for the assessment, planning,implementation, and evaluation of patient focused, outcome oriented care.  Will develop competencies for functioningsafely in all areas of Labor and Delivery Services.  Nursing plan of care will include newborns,adolescents, and adults.

 
 

What you will do inthis role:

  • Through assessment of the patient’s physical,nutritional, psychosocial, spiritual, emotional, cultural, educational, andrehabilitative needs, problems are identified and documented in the clinicalrecord and communicated to the physician, social worker, case manager, andancillary departments when appropriate

  • Appropriate standards of care, care plans, andinterventions are initiated, professionally modified, and communicated to thepatient and other members of the healthcare team

  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skillsnecessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety,and related criteria appropriate to the following age groups:  neonate, adolescence, childbearing age adult

  • Provides patient/family health education thatpromotes healthy behaviors, supports recovery, and enables the patient/familyto be involved in decisions about their own care

  • The patient’s responses to interventions andprogress toward desired outcomes are assessed, re-assessed, evaluated, anddocumented in the clinical record

  • Patient care activities are coordinatedthrough collaboration and planning with other members of the healthcare team

  • Physicians’ orders are carried out accuratelyand efficiently, and clarified when necessary

  • Adverse or sudden changes in the patient’sconditions are promptly communicated to the physician, charge nurse, nursingsupervisor, and/or family with specific and pertinent data

  • Able to identify potential or actual victimsof abuse and understands the proper reporting mechanism

  • Able to recognize adverse drug reactions anddemonstrates understanding of proper reporting mechanism once reaction isidentified

  • Appropriately assesses the patient’s pain andinvolves the patient in effective management of that pain using appropriateinterventions

  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skillsnecessary for administration of blood and blood products and appropriatelymonitors the patient receiving blood/blood products for any transfusionreaction; takes proper measures once a reaction is recognized

  • Patient care equipment is utilized safely andefficiently in accordance with hospital policies and procedures

  • Standard precautions are promoted and followedin the utilization of principles of infection control in patient care

  • Achieves stated goals related to jobperformance

  • Educational attendance records revealattendance at all required educational programs/in-services

  • Demonstrates ability to assess neonate atdelivery and perform neonatal resuscitation

  • Demonstrates knowledge of fetal monitoring.Identifies FHR patterns and treats appropriately

  • Able to modify job duties and communicate withcustomers in an age appropriate manner.

  • Demonstrates an ability to assist physicianswith procedures in Labor and Delivery, immediate postpartum, and O.R. asnecessary.

  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skillsnecessary to utilize the Infant Security System and HUGS tags.

Qualifications

What qualifications you will need:

  • Graduate of a Nursing Program from an accredited school
  • Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Louisiana
  • CPR for Healthcare Providers to be completed within 30 days of hire

  • ACLS to be completed within 30 days of hire

  • NRP within 6 months
  • Pediatric Trauma (to be obtained during orientation)
