24-hour emergency room

Level III Trauma Center

Comprehensive cardiovascular care

30-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Rio Grande Regional Hospital is currently looking for a Registered Nurse NICU (RN) PRN

Whatyou will do in this role:

  • Performs complete head to toe newborn assessment with plan of care in a family centered setting
  • Medication administration with understanding of side effects for NICU/newborn population
  • Thermoregulation:.Recognizes acceptable infant temperature ranges.
  • Infection control for newborns
  • Demonstrates proficiency with computerized documentation
  • Lactation support for breastfeeding mothers in accordance with policy.
  • Safely and efficiently perform role of Admission Nurse
  • Provides family centered education based on family needs
  • Accepts responsibility for unit charge nurse as assigned.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of developmental care of newborn.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of normal lab values of the neonate and recognizes and reports abnormalities of neonate and mother. Follow protocols for GBBS, glucose protocols.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of phototherapy and Kernicterus as a never event.

Qualifications

What qualifications you will need:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Current registration with the Board of Nurse Examiners for the state of Texas
  • BLS
